Murph on #TRENDINGTRACK “Turn”:

“It’s just a kind of twisted love song about my wife and how weird we are and how much we try to embrace that every day.  And there was one day where—I don’t know what had happened but—the place in Laurel Canyon has like a tiny pool…she just dragged me out there and put on umm Drake’s new album [Views] and we just sat there kinda listening to that all day.  That was kinda the beginning of the, well the lyrical process of that song anyway.”

Murph on struggle describing naming process for ‘Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life’:

“The title’s really hard to explain…whenever I’m asked to explain it, I don’t really know how to do it.  I feel like I get obsessed with people and I’m a bit of an empath in that I kind of ingest my surroundings…which is a really positive thing in many respects but it also can be quite a negative thing…and I think that’s where the title comes from really.”

Murph on putting together short set for Weezer/Pixies tour:

“I’m excited about it because we only have to play for 30 minutes!  It’s kinda like a stress-free, pressure-less set that we have to do which is kinda the dream…and we get to see like two of our favorite bands after we’ve played.  We’re not a band that kinda like changes our set list up that much so I guess the first few shows with Pixies and Weezer will just be a total guess work and then we’ll hone in on something and then keep it like that I think.”

Murph on worst AirBNB experience:

“My manager claims that he pressed ‘entire home’ on the AirBNB website.  I got there and there was just a partition running through the entire house with the people who owned the house living next to me.  MATT – Oh my god! Haha.  MURPH – It was really weird.  My bed was next to the uhhh…like broiler??  It was like pushed up to the broiler.  MATT – So every time they would cook you would feel like you were on fire?!  MURPH – Yeah exactly and they were arguing next to me and I could hear everything.  It was so weird.  MATT – That is so bizarre!  MURPH – Yeah.  The last day I was there the owner woke me up at like 7am…and so I kind of put some underwear on and went and let her in…and she was like: ‘did you get the email?’ and I was like: ‘well uh no.’ she was like: ‘ok we’re showing people the house today…so you need to like move your weird single bed away from the oven and uhhhh get in the garden for like a few hours!’.”
